Review / Synopsis.

An entertaining three-part series looking at the business of make-believe. Each programme explores a different level of the commercial theatre, finding that there's as much drama behind the scenes as on the stage.

Episode Guide:

Act I: First Night.
Dame Judi Dench, Prunella Scales and Rupert Graves are a few of the names in the first episode of Theatre Biz. It focuses on the uniquely stressful event of first night. The programme looks at two in detail - a glittering West End opening at the Theatre Royal Haymarket and a Broadway opening starring Whoopi Goldberg.

Act II: The Shakespearean Job.
A year in development and constantly dogged by financial problems, Bill Shakespeare's Italian Job arrives at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The producers' ideal scenario is to have a festival hit, transfer to London's West End, then tour the theatrical globe. Are they the next Reduced Shakespeare Company?

Act III: Exit Stage School.
The final episode follows two drama students, Bronagh Waugh and Gehane Strehler, through the ordeal of showcase, graduation and the months following, to see what becomes of them as they aspire to become true professionals. Features words of both warning and encouragement from experienced actors including Amanda Holden, Gillian Anderson, Adrian Lester, Michael Simkins and Stacey Haynes.
